Minor glitches, good for price January 24, 2010

Aside from a couple of small things, this is a good bike for the average rider. It has plenty of suspension travel for most situations. The frame is very strong and visually appealing. The bike isn't too heavy, but not super light either at 36 lbs. The drivetrain is pretty good, adjusts well and will go into all gears without trouble. The shifters are excellent, but take a little getting used to. The brakes are cable disc.
Complaints:
The front fork is very soft. It is tolerable for most use, but is way to softly sprung for more technical riding. The damper adjustment seems to do nothing at all. I will replace the front fork eventually.
The front brake has been totally obnoxious. It does not have enough stopping power to hold the bike on a decline, and barely stops the bike on flat ground. It also tends to get stuck in certain situations where the cable housing slips out of the stopper on the frame. I think it may be a defect in the front caliper, as the rear works great and is identical. I plan on putting a hydraulic brake on the front in the future. This will create another problem as the brake lever and shifter are combined in a single unit.
The bike comes with a 26x2.35 ITS Ninja on the front, and a 26x2.1 ITS Ninja on the rear. These tires are Ok, but not super great. It is a little weird having a wider tire on the front than the rear. The rear tire has since been replaced with a 26x2.4 Panaracer Fire ,also purchased on amazon, that just barely fits. This Change has made a huge improvement to the bike as a whole. The increased flotation is awsome. I live in an area where there is alot of sand, mud, and snow. The wide tires are able to conquer it all with much less effort than 2.1 wide tires cause.
Overall it is a great bike and a huge improvement over department store bikes, while it may leave some more spoiled riders wanting more. I would absolutely be willing to purchase another bike from Iron horse (on amazon) in the future.
